TIPS
New Year gets busy in Sofia and most of the cool places get fully booked. It’s mandatory to secure your spot by booking in advance. Therefore be sure to contact us for that.
Prices for taxis, dinners and parties are higher than usual so make sure to check our recommendations over the next weeks.
Public transport: Both metro lines will be operating such as some of the key tram, bus and trolley lines. The only problem is that they are not so frequent. Be sure to check the real-time timetable.
THINGS NOT TO DO
- Avoid drinking on the street
- Avoid being on the street especially around midnight
Not because it’s dangerous but mainly because of the fireworks and firecrackers. In Sofia and in Bulgaria people are keen on throwing lots of them from their windows, balconies, roofs.

Every year thousands of people gather in the city center for a free open-air concert. Be sure to have a bottle of champagne with you and bengal fire. - Live gigs in Bars:
Most of Sofia’s bars will have special local guests for a great night. - Restaurant Dinner:
Almost all the restaurants will have a special menu. Usually is the double or triple than a normal night since the food and drinks selection is higher. There is also a huge demand and spots in the top restaurants in Sofia get all booked in advance. Live music is part of the night too. - Ice Skating:
The biggest ice skating ring in Sofia is at the Ariana Lake. It’s open 24h and has a bar where you can buy mulled wine. - Sofia Christmas Market:
