University Botanical Garden
The University Botanical Garden was created and is maintained by the University of Sofia. It is located in the very heart of the capital, within a walking distance from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski metro station. Its goal is to maintain collections of plants for experimental, research and educational purposes.
The University Botanical Garden is one of the three botanical gardens in Bulgaria maintained by the University of Sofia. The other two are located in the seaside towns of Varna and Balchik. The mission of all the university gardens is to expand the knowledge of the plant kingdom and to bring awareness of the need of conservation and protection of rare and endangered plant species.
The institution maintains its own plant nursery which is located in the district of Knyazhevo. The nursery presents a big collection of different plants and offers professional information on anything you would like to know about any plant species. Here you can also get advice on planting, plant care and garden design and creation.
The garden is foreigner-friendly too. It offers a guided tour in languages other than Bulgarian. It also provides consultation services, be it in the garden itself or in your own home garden. There are also botanic classes for kids and students as well as a one-week “Green School” for students. The territory of the garden is very often used for entertainment purposes too – it has held concerts, fashion events, weddings and other private celebrations.
The University Botanical Garden is located on 49 Moskovska Str. It is open for visitors from January to July and from September to December. The garden is open from 9:00 till 17:00 during the week and from 9:00 till 18:00 during the weekend. The ticket price for an adult is 4 leva. Access is free for every student or teacher of the University of Sofia and for people with disabilities.
The Botanical Garden (in Boyana) offers a peaceful, beautiful but also educational experience for the lovers of all that is green.
